What is UPnP?
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows devices or services to automatically discover each other and configure the port settings on the router that are needed to communicate properly. Without UPnP, port forwarding rules have to be set on the router manually, which becomes tedious if you need rules for multiple devices and services.
UPnP is commonly used to easily ensure an unrestricted NAT, which is needed for most multiplayer games.
While convenient, allowing services and applications to configure port settings automatically via UPnP, this feature introduces an additional attack vector and vulnerability to your network. When opening ports is needed, manual port forwarding setup is generally considered safer and provides more control.
How do I enable UPnP?
When your Plume Home network operates in Bridge mode and has a separate router upstream, you can usually find the UPnP setting in the router's Firewall or NAT settings. If your Plume Home network operates in router mode, follow the instructions below to turn on UPnP using the Plume Home app.
Open the Settings page and tap on the Network tile.
Scroll down the page and slide the UPnP toggle to the right.
