How do I set up multiple passwords?

Updated over a week ago

The Pume Home app allows you to set up to 30 unique passwords on your Plume Home WiFi network using a single SSID (WiFi name). This feature allows you to set up guest access for your Plume Home WiFi network without needing a separate guest SSID. Also, each person can have their own unique password for the Plume Home WiFi network, with customizable access levels and options detailed below.

Note: The multiple password feature is only available on the WPA2 WiFi network (SSID). The WPA3 SSID, which is required for 6GHz WiFi, can only have a single password, although Plume Home supports having both a WPA3 SSID and a WPA2 SSID.

Plume Home WiFi access levels

Plume Home WiFi networks have 3 different access levels based on the type of password used, allowing for multiple use cases and the ability to control access to devices on the local network. You can have as many passwords of each type as needed, as long as the total is within the 30-password limit for the Plume Home network.

Home

There are no access limitations for devices connecting with Home passwords. In addition to having Internet access, devices connecting with a Home password are allowed to communicate with each other over the local network.

      • Devices connected with a Home password can selectively allow local network access to devices connected with a Guest password.

      • Any devices you want to share and control local access to, such as printers, file servers, media players, and smart home devices should be connected using a Home password.

      • The first password created during the initial setup of Plume Home is always a Home password.

      • All devices connected to the WPA3 SSID or via Ethernet are part of the Home network and can be selectively shared with devices using a Guest password

Guest

Local network access for devices is managed. In addition to having Internet access, each Guest password can be set up to allow local network access to selected Home devices (Shared devices).

      • Each Guest password can be created to allow local network access to a different set of Home devices. Each family member can have a custom password with specific permissions for local network access.

      • Devices using the same Guest password can communicate with each other on the local network, but they cannot communicate with devices using a different Guest password.

      • Each Guest password can be set to expire automatically (after 1 hour, 3 hours, by the end of the day, or at a custom time), disabling access when it's no longer needed.

Internet-only

Internet-only passwords have access to the Internet and no local network access.

      • Internet-only passwords are ideal for guests who do not need access to anything over the local network.

      • You can enable automatic expiration to disable the password when it's no longer needed.

How to enable multiple passwords

Multiple passwords are automatically enabled if your network does not have 6GHz-capable pods. However, if you have 6GHz-capable pods, your Plume Home WiFi network may only have a WPA3 SSID and you'll have to enable a WPA2 SSID as a secondary WiFi network.

  1. Open the Settings page and tap on the Network tile.

  2. Tap on WiFi security and turn the WPA2 toggle on.

  3. Tap on View passwords to create additional passwords for the WPA2 WiFi network.

How to change or add WiFi passwords

  1. Open the Network page in the Plume Home app.

  2. Under the Connectivity tab, you should see either one or two Password tiles.

    • If you have both WPA3 and WPA2 enabled, you can swipe to switch between the tiles for the WPA3 password and WPA2 password(s).

    • Tapping the Password tile will bring up different options for the WPA3 or WPA2 SSIDs.

WPA3 Password

  • The tile for the WPA3 SSID will show the obfuscated Primary password.

  • Tapping on the tile will display a pop-up with options for a QR code and to Edit WiFi.

  • The SSID and Password can only be changed since WPA3 does not multi-PSK.

WPA 2 Passwords

    • The tile for the WPA2 SSID will have an arrow and tapping the tile will open a Passwords page.

    • The Passwords page has 3 different tabs (Home, Guest, and Internet-only), allowing you to create and edit (tap on an existing password) each type of password.

    • Click the following links for step-by-step instructions on creating Home, Guest, and Internet-only passwords.
