Choosing your Motion Detection Devices

How are devices chosen to detect motion?

The Compatible devices list comprises all client devices connected to your Plume Home network via WiFi. Algorithms in the cloud continually choose the best devices based on a number of factors from this pool of compatible devices to assist the network in detecting motion. Motion is detected by measuring and interpreting the signal changes of device-to-extender and extender-to-extender connections as people, pets, and objects move through the home.

Modifying the Compatible devices list

We recommend leaving all devices in the Compatible devices list selected for optimal performance, since the system will automatically select the best from this pool. However, you can manually choose which devices are available for motion detection use in the Compatible devices list, and the following guidelines will help you refine the motion detection capabilities in your home.

  • If you want to limit motion detection in certain areas of your home, deselect devices in those areas.

  • Although most mobile devices are not used to detect motion, ensure the devices you have selected will remain static.

  • Avoid choosing devices that are battery-operated or may frequently go into a low-power state.

  • Always-on devices such as voice assistants and other smart home devices are good candidates for motion detection.

  • Since SuperPods are already being used to detect motion, avoid choosing devices that are in the same room or very close to them.

  • To better refine the motion sensitivity, use the Live View feature to test the motion detection in each room.

How do I access and modify the Compatible devices list?

  1. From the Home page, scroll down to the Activity section.

  2. Tap on Live View under the Motion tab.

    • The Motion Live view is only visible if Motion detection is enabled.

  3. Tap the Gear icon on the top right of the Motion screen.

  4. Tap the Edit button on the right of the Compatible devices option.

  5. Select or deselect devices from the list as needed and tap Save.

  6. From the home screen, scroll down to the Activity section and tap on the Live view under the Motion tab.

At any given time, the Cloud can use up to 3 of the most appropriate devices connected to each SuperPod from your choices.
