These are step-by-step instructions on setting up your new Plume Home network using the Plume Home app. These instructions are for new users setting up their SuperPods and Plume Home network for the first time.

What is needed to set up Plume Home?

  • One or more SuperPods

  • A mobile device capable of running the Plume Home app

  • The Plume Home app for iOS or Android

  • A broadband internet connection

  • Access to the same email that was used when the SuperPods were purchased

  • Apple Pay or Google Pay

Setting up your new Plume Home network is easy and the Plume Home app will guide you through the following steps. You can click on each step to expand if you want details.

  1. Launching the Plume Home app.

    1. Choose the Create account option.

  2. Terms and conditions.

    1. You will be presented with a few terms and conditions. Tap on the tiles to view each one.

      • After you've read and accepted a set of terms and conditions, a green check mark will appear beside it.

    2. Once all of the terms and conditions have been accepted, tap on the Next button that becomes available

  3. Creating your Plume Home account

    1. Enter your first and last name. This will be the name used on your account and will also be used to create the first profile on your Plume Home network.

      • (Optional) If you tap on the camera icon, you can add an image from your phone's gallery or use the camera to add an image for your profile.

    2. Tap on Next.

  4. Verify your email

    1. Enter your email address in the space provided.

      • (Optional) Selecting the Use password for setup option allows you to provide a password that will be used to log into the Plume Home app. If you are logged out of Plume Home, having a password lets you log back in without verifying your email.

    2. Tap on Next.

      • If you've previously attempted to set up Plume Home with that same email, you'll receive an error message stating that the email is already being used. Choose the SIGN IN option to verify your email and continue the setup process from the point it was previously abandoned.

    3. Open your device's email application.

    4. Open the email from Plume Support and open the Verify email link.

    5. Tap on Open the Plume Home app.

  5. Connect the first SuperPod to serve as the gateway pod on your network

    1. If you are adding SuperPods purchased from Plume to your existing network choose the Extenders option and tap on Next.

      • The Modem option is only used if you are setting up an OpenSync-enabled gateway provided by your ISP.

    2. Select the appropriate option based on which specific model of SuperPod is being used as the gateway pod.

      • Select My extender has NO power cable for SuperPods, SuperPods with WiFi 6, and SuperPods with WiFi 6E.

      • Select My extender has a power cable attached if you use a SuperPod Aon.

    3. Depending on your specific Internet connection type, there are two ways to connect your gateway pod.

      • The steps to connect your SuperPod to the network are displayed on the screen for the most common installations. If the exception below does not apply, these are the steps for most installations and are what is covered in the remainder of this article.

      • Tapping the info icon on each step will bring up a screen with more detail. Tap on Next to continue using this process.

      • Select the Other setup options button if you are replacing your existing router AND your internet connection uses PPPoE, VLAN, or a fixed IP. Click here to learn more about that specific process.

    4. Connect the left Ethernet port on the SuperPod with an Ethernet cable to your modem, router, or Fiber ONT.

    5. Plug the SuperPod into a power outlet and stay close while it is found by your phone's Bluetooth and added to your account.

      • The LED on the SuperPod should turn on and then start to pulse slowly.

    6. Your modem requires a restart so the connected SuperPod can be assigned an IP address. While keeping the SuperPod connected by Ethernet, disconnect the modem from power for at least a minute and then plug it back in.

    7. Once the SuperPod is successfully added to your account and has an internet connection, the Plume Home app will take you to the next installation step.

  6. Creating your new WiFi network

    1. Enter the WiFi name and WiFi password.

      • Reusing the same WiFi name (SSID) and password as your previous network will simplify connecting your devices to the new WiFi network.

      • The WiFi password you are creating during this step is a Home password. Any device connecting to the WiFi network using this password has full local network access.

    2. Tap on Next to continue.

      • While the WiFi name and password are being set up, the app will display tips you should follow when setting additional SuperPods in the next steps. Swipe the screen to view all of the tips.

  7. Add additional extenders (SuperPods)

    1. One at a time, start plugging in the additional SuperPods throughout your home using the tips from the previous step as a guide.

      • Plug the SuperPod into an outlet and make sure the LED turns on and starts slowly pulsing.

      • Stay close to the SuperPod and wait until the app confirms the extender has been found before moving on to the next one.

    2. Once all SuperPods have been found, tap on Next.

    3. If new firmware is available, the SuperPods will attempt to update.

      • The app will display the update progress for each SuperPod.

      • If the update fails on a SuperPod, it will be updated overnight when the network is not busy.

    4. Tap on Next to continue.

  8. Join the Plume Home WiFi network

    1. You will be prompted to connect your current device to the new Plume Home WiFi network.

      • If you are using an Android device, a popup with an option to Join will appear.

      • If you are using an iPhone you will be prompted to copy the WiFi password and be presented with instructions on how to connect to the WiFi.

    2. Tap on Done to continue.

      • Once connected, your phone will be assigned to the profile created for you earlier.

  9. Turning off the old WiFi

    1. You will be prompted to turn off your old WiFi network.

      • Turning off your old WiFi network reduces connection issues like interference and bouncing between the old and new WiFi networks.

      • If you are unsure how to do that, tap the How do I do that? button. This opens a browser window with links to instructions on turning off the WiFi on various manufacturers' routers.

      • You can continue the setup process and turn off your old WiFi later.

    2. Tap on Yes, I turned it off to continue.

  10. Enable Notifications

    1. This optional step enables push notifications from the Plume Home app on your mobile device.

      • Choosing Accept allows you to receive notifications such as when your network goes offline, or if a device is quarantined by Advanced IoT protection. If notifications are enabled, additional feature-specific notification options can also be enabled from within the Plume Home app.

      • If you choose Cancel, all push notifications for the Plume Home app will be disabled and must be enabled under your device's application preferences.

    2. Choose Next to continue.

  11. Plume Home Membership

    1. This step is to set up the subscription to the Plume Home Membership. Swipe through the screens to learn more about the benefits of the Plume Home membership.

    2. After reading and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, tapping Subscribe will open Apple Pay or Android Pay.

    3. This first month of Plume Home is free, but the recurring monthly payment for the membership needs to be confirmed in the payment application to continue.

      • A $0 payment will be processed to confirm the subscription.

      • The membership can be cancelled anytime from within the payment application as long as it is requested at least 24 hours before the monthly renewal date.

    4. Tap on Okay to continue once the membership is activated.

  12. Set up Complete

    1. Once setup is complete, tapping next provides the option to continue setting up more profiles. Choosing to skip opens a series of educational screens explaining key Plume Home features.
